  1. What is Phoenix Freeze™?

    Freeze pairs your Bluetooth phone with your PC so that your PC is automatically locked when you walk away with your phone.  When you return your PC is automatically unlocked.  This combination offers safety, security, and peace of mind without the annoying effort required to constantly lock and unlock your PC with passwords or finger swipes.  For those who are particularly cautious and for those with a particularly critical need to secure data, you will be able to make Freeze a part of a multifactor authentication process and still reduce the time and effort required to achieve a highly secure PC experience.

  2. How does Freeze work?

    Freeze uses the paired Bluetooth signal from your phone and computer to establish a configurable zone of safety. Freeze can automatically lock your computer when you and your phone are outside the safety zone and then unlock it when you and your mobile device are back inside the safety zone. The computer is locked at the Windows level thus preventing sensitive data from being viewed and reducing the risk of data loss and computer theft. Additionally, when you are away from the safety zone, Freeze can be configured to put your computer to sleep mode thus reducing your computer’s power and saving on battery life.

  3. What are the components of Freeze?

    Freeze consists of the client agent which resides on the registered computer. No software is installed on the phone.

  4. What locking mechanism does Freeze use?

    Freeze locks the computer with the Windows XP and Windows Vista password lock thus preventing unauthorized access to sensitive data.

  5. Is every Bluetooth phone supported?

    Freeze supports all Bluetooth enabled devices.

  6. Is every Bluetooth enabled computer supported?

    Freeze has a built-in Phoenix Bluetooth stack that offers an advanced configurable setting where you can adjust the Bluetooth signal strength to determine the detection zone. If the system is using another Bluetooth stack, you will still be required to select the Phoenix Bluetooth stack during install.

  7. How does Freeze pair with my Bluetooth phone?

    Freeze uses the same pairing standards protocol that you may have used to pair your Bluetooth headset. Once Freeze is installed, the Bluetooth stack will automatically start to discover Bluetooth enabled phones. Once you see your mobile phone has been discovered, select this and a pairing PIN password will be sent to the phone. Simply enter this password into the phone and both devices will generate a secure token and then they are paired. Next time both devices will use the previously generated link key to authenticate each other thus pairing is not required.

  8. How can Freeze save the battery life on my computer?

    A power saving mode can be configured to save battery time when you walk away from your computer. This mode will instruct the computer screen to be powered off and then resumed you return. To allow for greater battery life savings, Freeze can also instruct your computer to enter sleep mode as you walk away from the system.

  9. Can I pair multiple phones with Freeze?

    Freeze supports one paired phone at a time although you can pair with a new phone any time through the Freeze application.
